It had been another long but productive day at the station, and Jack was more than ready to unwind and spend time with his love. He was all smiles during the drive home and, sure enough, he found Thomas in the garden. Working hard, as usual. He stood there for a moment, watching the man he'd fallen so deeply for, until finally he approached him.

"It looks great here." He wrapped his arms around Thomas' waist from behind and kissed his cheek.

Jack smiled down at him, playing with his hair while catching his breath. They could properly savor the afterglow in their home, no sneaking around or rushing.

He started humming a soft tune while his fingers brushed through Thomas' dark hair. It was such a beautiful moment.

Thomas glanced up at Jack humming but he didn’t want to say anything to bring it up that he was doing it. He didn't want it to stop because it was something he loved to hear. He also had heard Jack sing which he would never want to stop him doing either.

Laying there like that with Jack he remembered someone saying once that someone humming like that was a sign they were happy and Thomas loved that idea then, when he'd never really considered it before. Jack was humming, so he was happier knowing that.

Ever since Thomas came along, Jack found himself humming a lot more often. Singing, too. He felt so happy now, completely and utterly happy.

He kept playing with his husband's hair, humming a love song he remembered well. It could be their song from now on.

Thomas didn't want to move but he wanted to be back up next to Jack. He slowly and carefully moved so he could rest his head on Jack's shoulder. "Don't stop." He said quietly as he settled against Jack.

He was happy to oblige. Jack kept humming the song while caressing Thomas' back lovingly. He'd plant small kisses on his husband's head and cheek. It was so perfect, the two of them laying together like that.

"Your eyes so blue, your kisses too. I never knew what they could do. I can't believe that you're in love with me," he sang softly.

Thomas kept smiling as he listened to Jack's voice as he sang. It was perfect. He closed his eyes as he realised he'd started humming along with Jack's singing.

Jack couldn't stop smiling when he heard Thomas humming. He had a lovely voice. He'd want to sing together by the piano with him sometime.

"I love your voice," he murmured.

Thomas opened one eye and looked at Jack with an eyebrow raised. "You sound better than I do." He moved enough to kiss Jack's cheek. "I didn't mean to stop you singing." He rested his head back against Jack.

"Your voice is enchanting. Much better than mine."

"Oh I'm not exactly a professional," Jack said with a bashful smile. "You sound lovely. And it's okay, I wanted to talk to you." He kissed the top of Thomas' head.

"We should try a little duet on the piano sometime."

"Talk." Thomas moved so they were nose to nose. "What if I didn't want to talk." He smiled.

"I'd like that. But I'll warn you I'm not as good as you."

"What do you want to do then, darling?" He smiled back, giving Thomas' nose a swift kiss. Having Thomas' face so close to his gave Jack the butterflies.

"You're plenty good."

"But I certainly won't be on the wireless any time soon." He wasn't upset about that.

He smirked. Then wrapped his arms around Jack and closed his eyes. "Sleep." He teased him, pretending to be trying to fall asleep. Then only opened one eye looking at Jack.

"What should we be talking about?"

"Me neither." Jack chuckled.

He held Thomas close, feeling so enamored with him. "Mhhm?" Jack was silent for a moment before he started talking again. "How do you feel about the ring? It's a big thing for both of us."

"Which is a shame for everyone else." Not for him, because he got to hear Jack singing.

Thomas sobered a little, looking more serious as he sat up next to Jack. "I feel a bit rebellious wearing it. I mean sad story for everyone else notwithstanding." He also felt a little sad that other people couldn't know their joy and share in it with them.

Jack noticed the change in Thomas' mood and he felt bad for bringing it up and ruining the lovely mood. He reached for his husband's hand, gently caressing it.

"I know. I wish I could tell the entire world about the wonderful man in my life. A man who's made me happier than anyone else has ever done." There was some comfort in having at least a few people know about them. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to dampen the celebration."

"You didn't do anything of the sort." He lifted both their hands and kissed the back of Jack's hand. "This is important and should be given that respect."

The people who knew were the important ones. "I should include a hint at things in my next letter." Because outright saying in a letter could be risky.

Jack smiled again, the feel of Thomas' lips against his skin sending a surge of warmth through his body. He did amazing things to him. "You're right. It should be given that respect."

Those people were more than worthy of the trust. He was so happy to see them embrace Thomas so quickly.

"That's a great idea, darling."

"I'm honoured that you've given this to me. It means the world to me. But them I've already followed you around half of it." He smiled, the smile that reflected in his eyes and he was happy. Nothing was taking that away from him.

"What do you think about it?"

"I'm glad you could come with me." That happiness on Thomas' face was enough to let him know that this was right. He was so happy, too.

"I think that the ring is exactly where it belongs now. You're my husband and I love you more than anything. It's a secret I'm more than willing to protect from those who would judge us. I'll protect you." He kissed him softly and hugged him close.

Thomas held Jack as he was being held. Everything that Jack had said he couldn't dispute.

"I love you too." He mumbled against Jack's lips as he kissed him again. "I'll protect you as well. Because I want to be the one who looks after you."

"I'm in the best hands." Jack cupped Thomas' cheek. "There's no hesitation here.. We can do what we want now." He happily kept kissing Thomas while hugging him. This was his favorite place in the world.

"So am I. I know the best police officer." Thomas just held Jack, enjoying the kisses they were sharing. He couldn't think of a better place to be. This was home.

This was home.

"And this police officer will do anything for you."

He'd be there in a heartbeat if Thomas was in danger. There were some shady characters in the city.

He kissed him again and again.

"I know." Thomas felt lucky. The luckiest now. "I'm safe with you."

If anything happened to Jack he knew the people to ask for help. He listened to everything Jack said so he'd learned that. "While I'm not a police officer I have Hugh and Miss Fisher to help me."

"Safe and satisfied," Jack smirked playfully.

It was a huge burden off his shoulders to know that Thomas had people to help him and look after him if Jack ever got injured during a case. He'd hate for him to be alone and worry.

"You're quite capable and observant. You could be my assistant detective." He loved the idea of them working together to figure some cases out.
