It had been another long but productive day at the station, and Jack was more than ready to unwind and spend time with his love. He was all smiles during the drive home and, sure enough, he found Thomas in the garden. Working hard, as usual. He stood there for a moment, watching the man he'd fallen so deeply for, until finally he approached him.

"It looks great here." He wrapped his arms around Thomas' waist from behind and kissed his cheek.

"I can leave one of my shirts with you, if it helps." He murmured, holding Thomas close to him. He missed him so much whenever he was working, but it made the reunion even more worth it.

"I'll make sure to hold you lots and give you kisses before I leave."

"I'd like that." He knew that Jack's clothes were there anyway but one that was left for him was different.

He smiled. "I'd like that even more."

"You can wear it and think of me." He smiled at the idea of Thomas wearing his clothes. He'll look so good in them. And out of them.

He leaned in to give Thomas a little preview of those kisses.

"I will and I think it only fair that you should have one of mine in return then. So I can look after you when you're helping everyone else." Because that made Thomas feel better. A little way he could be with Jack through the day.

He kissed Jack back. "I'll take some more of those..." He put his arm back around Jack.

"It's a deal, darling. We'll swap clothes to make our time apart more bearable." It'd bring him some good luck, too. Knowing a part of Thomas was with him at all times.

"By all means." He gladly kept kissing his husband, cupping his cheek gently.

Thomas smiled, kissing Jack until he needed to catch his breath. Then just smiling at him as they lay together. Thomas gently resting a hand on Jack's chest, feeling it move with Jack's breathing.

That smile was so special, the way Thomas' face lit up instantly. He loved seeing that, and loved knowing it was because of him.

His hand found Thomas', holding it gently. A lovely moment of connection between them.

That was Jack's smile, Thomas had found it because of him and that had given him a whole new meaning to things and a lot of new reasons to still be there. Jack knew what he'd tried to do and still cared about him.

He left their hands there a moment then lifted them to his lips to kiss Jack's hand before smiling again. He did that a lot with Jack.

Jack's heart hurt when he discovered what Thomas had tried to do. His heart hurt knowing he'd been in such a dark place, but he'd never ever think badly of that. He'd made sure to let Thomas know he cared about him a great deal and he loved him.

Jack smiled when Thomas kissed his hand and he leaned in to kiss him again.

"I love you."

Thomas appreciated that, more than he could ever show to Jack. It felt like a lifetime ago now and it felt with Jack he wasn't going to slip back to that place again.

"I think you've said that already." He laughed. "I love you too. I think we fill this house with it."

"Every room of this house is full of love." Jack took Thomas' hand in his and softly kissed his wrist, just like he'd done back in Downton.

He'd vowed to make Thomas happy and show him how special and cherished he is.

"One if the reasons I love this house." The other being most important and that was Jack himself.

The kiss to his wrist... Thomas looked at Jack and didn't know what to say. To acknowledge it or not. He wanted to acknowledge Jack for caring about it but not what he'd done. Even the pain from his hand and leg didn't match to that.

He pressed his free hand to Jack's cheek, holding it.

"It's a wonderful house now."

The kisses came naturally. He wanted to replace the pain with love. He met Thomas' gaze with a loving smile as he nuzzled his hand. It was a perfect moment.

"How did I get so lucky?"

Whatever had been before it was now theirs and Thomas made sure it was all in order as he always had done before with the difference that this was Jack and his. Which made everything more special. "Of course it is. It's ours."

Thomas shook his head. "Because you clearly needed someone to look after you. I know I did." He admitted.

Thomas had done wonders on the place and it looked incredible. It really felt like home now. "Ours. A place where we can be ourselves and in love."

Outside of home, Jack was glad he had someone to talk to about Thomas. Someone who wouldn't judge. Hugh had been amazing, despite his confusion at first.

"You're right about that. All I did was work, work, work." He kissed Thomas a few more times. "Looking after you is a pleasure."

"Definitely in love." There was no way Thomas wanted that to change.

Thomas hadn't known what to think of Hugh at first, but he had to admit that he liked him then, if Jack trusted him the Thomas did as well and it seemed to be well founded I Hugh and his girl. Who Thomas liked as well.

"I'm glad to be a suitable distraction for you." Jack needed a break and Thomas was more than happy to make sure he took time away from his job. Yes, it was rewarding but it was also stressful. Thomas wanted their home to be away from that.

"So very in love." The feeling was mutual. He'd never want it to change either.

He'd been overjoyed to discover that both Hugh and Dottie were fond of Thomas. It meant the world to him. He smiled fondly while playing with his lover's fingers.

"You're the best distraction. And the best thing that ever happened to me." Jack kissed Thomas' chest, humming softly.

There was a time Thomas would have carefully withdrawn his hand from Jack, but not any more. The scar had healed but was visible only when not wearing his glove which he did a lot less there. In the garden certainly and when he went out. But that need to hide from Jack had gone. He just enjoyed the affectionate touch from Jack.

"Speaking of distractions, I need to go to pick up a few items. I'll go along with you to work tomorrow if that's okay and find my own way back home."

That earned him a curious look.

"It's more than okay. And I know someone who'd be happy to give you a lift back. Two decent blokes who run a cab service."

Jack noticed the lack of hesitation and it made him glad. He appreciated that show of trust. He kissed the back of Thomas' hand and gazed at his ring finger. "What would you say if I gave you something to wear on your finger?"

"That sounds very practical. Thank you." Glad that Jack didn't ask further what he was doing. He wanted it to be a surprise for him after all.

Thomas raised an eyebrow at Jack. Trying not to smile. More trying not to make some comment, but he softened his expression. "I already call you husband..." That smile had crept back. "So why not." He could always make up something about a fiance back in England that has befallen some tragedy which is why he was there.

"No problem, darling. You'll be in good hands." He'd be looking forward to finding out what that something was.

Thomas' expression matched Jack's. He reached into the drawer for a small box and opened it to take out the silver ring. "I was hoping you'd say that. This ring has been in my family for years and it'd be an honor if you wore it." He carefully put the ring on his lover's finger. "Looks perfect."

"Well if you trust them, so do I." Thomas was going to enjoy seeing Jack's reaction to his surprise.

Thomas held his hand up, looking at the ring on his hand. "It is." He would take the very best care of it because it clearly meant a lot to Jack and that meant more to Thomas that he was being given it. "If anyone dares ask about it I will give them a story about it's from my love who will forever be in my heart to hold a piece of them close." He could make it sound tragic if needed but the statement was just truth. Though he doubted people would even care or notice. He'd know though and Jack would. The only opinion that mattered to him.

"They work with Miss Fisher and sometimes they help out with our cases, too." Jack loved his husband's surprises.

He smiled as he looked at the ring on Thomas' finger. It fit perfectly and the meaning behind it made it even better. This was their little secret. "That'll work." Only Thomas' opinion mattered to him, too. "We should celebrate our engagement." He grinned, nuzzling Thomas' nose with his own.

"Well they sound like they're good people to know." He looked up at Jack. "And I've yet to formally meet the famed Miss Fisher. Anyone would think you were hiding me away."

Thomas smiled. "I was thinking the same thing." Leaning both hands on Jack's chest pushing him on his back. Kissing down Jack's chest and moving lower.

"They are." And that's when he realized it, too. He hadn't introduced him to his fascinating colleague just yet. "She's been a busy lady, but I'm sure she'd be more than happy to make time for you." He was eager to see how the two of them will get along.

"Oh I like where this is going." Jack smirked, lying there as he watched his husband. The feel of his lips was so soft and arousing."
